Google Sitemap

A sitemap is quite the same thing as it sounds. In common man’s language a sitemap is a coded page that indexes the entire website and all its pages. The coding of a Google Sitemap is conventionally in XML form. The Google Sitemap feature is a huge advantage especially since this one page actually informs the search engine crawler about every page or URL that is available on your website for crawling and indexing.

Originally based on ideas supplied by Brandman, the Google Sitemap provides tremendous leverage to webmasters especially since it is scalable and can accommodate even large websites. Webmasters can also take advantage of additional features that allow them to append information about each URL like its last date of updating, its importance, and how often it is altered.

Sitemaps in general are very useful for end users as well. They help them explore the entire website and access areas of a site that are otherwise deeply nested or available only through search.    

The Google Sitemap protocol is an initiative that aids web administrators to help their site be detected by the crawler but it doesn’t ensure better search engine result rankings or that all your pages will be included in the engine’s indices. A Sitemap is only like a submission only in this case you end up submitting multiple URLs at one go. Also, a Google Sitemap doesn’t do away with SEO needs but helps many websites get completely noticed.
